Science communication

I work as a press officer for Exeter University, writing about climate and the environment. I regularly get national and international media coverage for Exeter’s research.

The subjects I write about include:

I worked on media outreach for three of Carbon Brief’s “most talked about” climate papers of 2022. My press releases for these papers included Amazon rainforest losing resilience and No sign of decrease in global CO2 emissions.

Here are some examples of my work and the resulting media coverage:

Limiting global warming to 1.5°C would save billions from dangerously hot climate

Ozone treaty is delaying first ice-free Arctic summer

Pinker flamingos more aggressive

I camped at Davos in Switzerland (in -20C) as part of the Arctic Basecamp team, promoting the importance of climate science to politicians and business leaders.

Among the stories I worked on was the Breakthough Effect, which got media coverage including: CNN, the Guardian and the New Scientist.

Continuing the camping theme, I went the 2022 Glastonbury Festival (in +25C).

I promoted the launch of the new Science Futures area, as well as events and research involving Exeter University.
